Should Older Baby Boomers Be Called Elderly???
The Baby Boomer generation sang "I hope I die before I get old" and Now they are.....well...getting old.
Each day, for the next 19 years, approximately 10,000 baby boomers will turn age 65. Still, it just doesn't seem right that the Baby Boomer generation should be called elderly.
I bring this up because of a recent story from a client. Last week he was telling me the story of his neighbor who had gotten into an auto accident. It was reported in the local media and his is neighbor was very upset about it. Not upset about the damage to his car or the minor bruises he sustained. He was upset, no MAD, that the newspaper called him "elderly".
This got me wondering. What do Baby Boomers want to be called? Just Baby Boomers? Aging Boomers? If your a Baby Boomer, are you comfortable with elderly? or (God forbid) senior citizen?????
This may sound trivia, but it's not. The Baby Boomer generation is unlike any other. Baby Boomers will be the wealthiest, healthiest, longest living and most active retiring generation the world has ever seen. I doubt Baby Boomers want to be referred to as old or elderly.
Baby Boomers! Speak and you shall be heard. Please tell us, what do you want to be called???
